The roots

The Chinese word is made up of two parts: the first part, ‘’ (mù) represents the concept of wood, and the second part “” (lín) represents the concept of a group of trees. Together, they form the meaning of a large area of trees or a forest.

In Chinese culture, forests are seen as a place of refuge, but also represent a place for adventures, mystery, and magical happenings. Design is like a forest in that it is a complex system. Made up of many different parts that are all interconnected, requiring balance and harmony, constantly evolving, and a source of inspiration.

Born ‘’ as a Chinese born in Cambodia, my father was forced to give up his family name. As Cambodians of Chinese descent were targeted for persecution and genocide by the Khmer Rouge. While seeking refuge, he was fostered by a family in which he adopted and which remains to this day, the surname Tamkican.
